1) I agree, and life gets more difficult every day. Regulations and more regulations. I am a semi-retired Engineer and had a PE license in several states before I retired. Although my background by education is electrical, my experience covered other fields as was necessary over the years. This included considerable construction, mechanical, and HVAC.
I got fascinated by the refrigerant issues several years ago when I stumbled upon some articles on hydrocarbon refrigerants. That is what lead me to you. One thing that is appalling is the lack of real skills and knowledge with the average heat and air companies. They really do not know the basics of their product. All they want to do is sell new equipment for high dollars.
The major experiments are with my home Heat pump which is about 25 years old, a 42,000 btu unit. By my calculations, I have increased the EER from about 8 to 10 by using EF-22a and a few other small changes. I am in process of a few major changes, and will let you know the results. It might help you and others.

2) I have been using EF-22A in a Carrier Model 38TK036310 air conditioner (three ton unit manufactured in 1990) since Aug 15, 2006. Upon conversion from R-22, the power consumption to the compressor unit reduced from 16.9 Amps @230 VAC to 13.0 Amps @ 230 VAC (this includes the cooling fan which consumes 1.4 Amps @230 VAC).
The high side pressure reduced from 257 PSI to 200 PSI (ambient temperature was 96 deg F when measured) with a noticeable reduction in the noise level. The outlet temperature was 10 degrees colder than with R-22 and consistently holds below 55 Degrees F even when the ambient temperature has reached 104 Degrees F.
The Carrier air conditioning unit is now 19 years old and I expect to replace it in the not too distant future. Carrier's new energy efficient air conditioning units use R-410A as a refrigerant and consequently are not being considered as a potential replacement.
Could you advise of any Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) that are supplying new air conditioner units with EE-22a or one of your other refrigerants ?

Just wanted to tell you, I evacuated the 27,000 btu window ac I have, put in 1 can of EF-22a, put in a second can, started the unit, started putting in the third can. I had a suction side pressure of about 76 psi. The ambient temp was 84 deg F. The output air temp, using a bimetal thermometer (of which I checked the cal. of), was 60 deg. As it started going lower, I let out some of the gas, bringing the suction press to 72 psi.
I reinstalled the ac into it's through the wall slot, and let it run. As the temp in the room went down, I checked to find the room temp at around 72 degrees, and the ac output temp at 50 degrees. After sunset, room temp down now to 69 degrees, and ac output to 45 degrees !! This stuff is unreal !!
The pressure at suction when I first charged it was, as I said 72 psi, as the unit was running. When the compressor turned off, the pressure rose tom 350+ psi. As the compressor restarted later, it returned to 72 psi.
If this unit got much colder, I could have hung meat in my living room !! Just thought you'd like to hear of my experience. Thanks for a good product ...........
